Some say that when we walked out of Africa we took the Seven Sisters / Pleaides stories with us which is why they occur in most cultures. They are the embodiment of free spirits and move between the heavens and the earth, often in the form of birds. They are indicators of fecundity, fertility, the beginning and end of seasons, the start of growth and the harvesting of bounty. Their exploits show us the correct ways and relationships between men and women. They are pursued by men and subject to trickery, they sometimes get caught but get away. They always remain singular entities, unbound by the will of man.
